Dear Eckhart Teachings,

I want to share with you the “fruits” of your teachings, which I [apparently I] have been following since 1999.
.
Yesterday I heard news in the mid-afternoon that the financial market was melting down, and very bad times are indeed ahead (the media’s interpretation.) I was at work at my desk – I work for a self-help organization called The Sedona Method, which disseminates spiritual teachings, much like your organization does. I realize that I have been addicted to everything. I feel like my ego is very smart and tricky, and can change its obsession and addiction at any time.  I have gone from being addicted to people, work, situations, food, feelings, to power etc.  After reading and learning about the present moment, my life has slowed down a lot. I had always considered myself a self-help “junkie.”  One day, while in a major department store bookshop I discovered The Power of Now.  The words hit me with clarity and deep inner knowing that I had not felt before. There is no great drama in my story.  I’m just another modern person whose life seemed to lack meaning.  As Tolle says, I lived in thoughts of the past and daydreams of the future. I was born in Cologne, Germany, six months after Hitler came to power.  My family, because they were Jewish, though not religious Jews, fled Germany, a country they loved and always missed.  I was raised by an unhappy mother and father and did not do well in the second-rate schools I attended.
